The purpose of the above article is to point out that the Transcarpathia region, located in the south-west of Ukraine, may in the future become the source of another conflict in Europe, a conflict that will take place in the immediate vicinity of Poland. It presents the history of Transcarpathia throughout the 20th and 21st centuries and tries to answer the question whether a possible Ukrainian-
-Hungarian conflict and whether the movement for the autonomy of Transcarpathia undertaken by the Ruthenians may have a negative impact on the security situation in Central Europe.
